I can't help looking at bright waterproof rain jackets, especially with the record rainfalls we've been having in Seattle (known more for drizzle than measurable rainfall)
Well, I can't see it in the picture, but I know exactly what they mean by the term

covers what deets you might desire.
Or chest utility pocket, as you might prefer
But these are totally waterproof jackets. Which means that as soon as you move a bit you get drenched in sweat on the inside. I much prefer the softshell concept, where you might get a bit damp in a prolonged downpour but you get much better ventilation. A wool base layer will efficiently prevent you from dying of hypothermia if you get damp. Bright colors are a good idea to help you stand out from the grey though, you might even add some reflective piping to be more visible to cars, a pedestrian needs all the help they can get on a rainy winter evening
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for writing.
DeleteSeattle used to be Drizzle City, lately it's been downpours. I made myself a vinyl rain skirt, it's been that wet. I have discovered that several coats I have made are waterproof in the seams, but the body fabric will get soaked through fairly swiftly. Pit zips exist for this very reason.
I realize I did not post a photo of the finished coat on the blog. I am working on a post following up on some projects and how they held up (or didn't) and this one is first up.
