Craftsy Is Back Again But .....

I'm sure you got this email recently.

 https://craftindustryalliance.org/what-to-expect-from-the-new-craftsy/

This page is from last year, but the comments just keep on coming. And if you are considering taking this low low priced offer, please read those comments in that link.

And then there's Reddit. Sewing Reddit is not the swirling downspout of doom that Pop Culture reddit is.

Anyone in here bought back in?

I was all in at the beginning, sold patterns on their website, bought classes and watched them, but gave up shortly after the last deal with Bluprint, and lucky for me my credit card number has changed since then (a process I recommend highly every year, especially if you have any subscriptions you paid for with a credit card).

Roaring 20s And Swinging 60s And A One Hour Dress Challenge

 https://exhibitions.fitnyc.edu/roaring-20s-and-swinging-60s/pattern-project/

I will be sewing this one this spring. This is my catnip, even if I never finish it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LFHtNMZxYg&t=8s
She makes a scale model of the pattern to show how it goes together. I do love a scale model

And of course, we can't not look at this

Who can actually sew the one hour dress in one hour?

Well, nobody, but certainly in an afternoon you could get most of it done. This video discusses the wisdom of that timetable, as well as a little history of the pattern, the woman who developed it and her story, and some general sewing pattern history. The One Hour really does want a few inches of ease to let that bodice drape (it's worked really well in rayon for me, and because it's almost all straight seams, you're less like to run into issues of stretching on the bias).

And the original pamphlet is available for free. Yes, I said FREE. So stop paying for this sweetie!

McQueen Savage Beauty Video Is Better At A Slower Speed

In honor of Alexander McQueen's birthday today.....a helpful hint.

Watch it at .75 speed on YouTube

Come to think of it, most instructional videos are better slowed down. I've been watching most of my accounting class videos at .50 or .75.
And it's finals week, so I have notes to review.

Aprons and Appropriation

Read the comments on this video for a little back and forth on the history

I'm here because my sister has asked for an apron just like Sohla El-Waylly, and since she does not ask for much, it's the least I can do for her.

I went looking for a pattern because sometimes I like someone else to do the drafting.

You may be familiar with Sohla's story

https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2020/08/06/bon-appetit-test-kitchen-stars-depart-new-exec-editor-named/3310473001/

and this great interview with Sam Sanders
https://www.npr.org/2021/03/05/974000091/sohla-el-waylly-on-race-food-and-bon-appetit

I think it's unkind to sell merch with someone's name if that someone was being underpaid for their 'celebrity' work, but it's a big world

So I found this one
https://www.etsy.com/listing/913532722/criss-cross-apron-pattern-one-size-fits?ref=shop_home_feat_4&bes=1

I did flip the piece to snug it up to the other and leave a bigger leftover piece. I also print on used paper that I decided you did not need to see the other side of.

used this fabric (from a Beppa sale, deeeeeeep stash I think my sister picked out for me)

Added some skinny pockets on the sides without being asked.
I can take them off if she'd like.

and it's done

Spoonflower 50% Off Fat Quarters Mean Lots of Cool Projects YOU can do

I do all this in Paint.

I don't have Adobe. I haven't learned Inkscape or Gimp, I don't have an Ipad so I don't use Procreate.

I have many many more. Most I don't have on public settings.

Paint. Boring old Paint. I did size up the text and clean it up, but it took maybe 30 minutes start to finish.

So the tech wall to step over is pretty damn low.

And as the designer, your price is even lower (about 6.50 ish)

https://blog.spoonflower.com/2019/07/diy-family-recipe-tea-towel/?

Your Mom wants one. Or your kids.

Or you just want a reminder every day that this pandemic will eventually end.

As the email says

Promotion of 50% off fat quarters of fabric is valid from 12:00 a.m. EST Monday, March 1, 2021 through 11:59 p.m. EST Friday, March 5, 2021.
