WIPs gettting finished: the asymetrical 'dignified lady' pullover

We last looked at this in 2019

https://erniekdesigns.blogspot.com/2019/04/bride-of-dignified-pullover-collar.html

and before then

https://erniekdesigns.blogspot.com/2019/03/the-bride-of-dignified-pullover-garment.html

And finally resolving it, well 85% resolved

I've been meaning to resolve this shirt, and I finally broke down and (mostly) finished it

The cuffs aren't done, and the hem was so uneven because I left some parts off, and I just got annoyed with the whole thing and shoved it in a drawer. And kinda wore it now and then?

Enough to put a name tag so I could identify the back and the front

I broke down and bought ribbing that mostly matches

and made a big foldover band that goes all the way around

Has a drop at one corner

I did not spend a lot of time sewing this, the stitching in the ditch is sub par

It goes with the mushroom planet colors of my workplace

Behold, the Recital Hall Bathroom at Benaroya Hall.
I match the entire color palette for the whole building.
"Taupe on toast"
I have not finished the cuffs, but I had lots of homework and a deadline to finish four more pants and three more dress hems. And since I have worn this to work a couple of times and no one has said anything, I'm going to let them be for the moment.

But at least I had time to post this.

Kwik Sew folded and I missed it?

I did not know this, from October 2021

Ten years ago, things were different with them. A lot happened in the meantime.

Uh, yes, the author does ignore Stretch and Sew (https://www.threadsmagazine.com/2015/08/20/ann-person-sewing-entrepreneur-dies-at-age-90) but this is about Martensson, not the industry.

I have been paying attention to the commercial pattern industry, but I have a full time job and classes and that hemming gig so I have let my attention wander. I did read this piece when it went up, which sums up the state of the commercial pattern industry at the time. I didn't bother with the comments at the time.

This article and the comments are worth reading if you haven't already; it touches on the snobbery of the indie fans and the nostalgia for a sewist's golden era (which for some of us was in the first era of Stretch And Sew and doubleknit, now known as ponte) but there's some good info buried in there (go to the end of the comments)(oh my god I'm in there)

and a little about Martensson herself

Pants Pants Pants

All I am sewing is pants.

And I honestly cannot make a fly and a waistband the same way twice.

This time I put some ban rol waistband into it, as end leaders for the wide elastic that makes up most of the waistband..

https://www.wawak.com/Garment-Construction/Elastic-Waistbands/ban-roll-waistband-non-elastic/?sku=EL302

which works except for the part where I put the buttonhole through it, and it's cutting through the buttonhole threads because plastic is a weapon baby.

The lead piece to the right of the elastic is the ban-roll. Super stiff and is wearing well except for that pokey bit.

The nonelastic leader gets the button or the button hole, and stops the bunching at the point where the elastic starts.

And my tiny friend got a pair as well

And the tiny shirt so we'll match.
Dollightly, great patterns

Yes, she will get a face up, her hair rerooted and redone, and oh yeah, she'll get back her finished feet. She will also get those tennis shoes with foot plugs and pegs for when she wants to look more like me.
Plus glasses. Cause Me

Added goodness:
really old pants

"How Did It Hold Up?" The Green Apple Winter Raincoat

Courtesy of a prompt by GMarieSews (https://gmariesews.blogspot.com/2022/01/is-it-possible.html?), we introduce a new feature:

    HOW DID IT HOLD UP?

You know, a thing I made and what happened to it? A  walk through the drawers and the closet to see what lasted and what happened to it.

The one on my mind right now is the big green winter raincoat. Cause I'm wearing it from October to March, from 2018 until now. Today, frankly.

Once again, we lost the war on Christmas

https://erniekdesigns.blogspot.com/2018/02/201718-winter-coat-that-is-not-black.html

The puckering wrinkles on the front placket don't annoy me while I'm wearing it

Because it needs some loving, and a small rethinking or two.

The interior pocket festival was great. The big 'holds my latte' pocket has also held a box of girl scout cookies, a handful of Covid test kits, a pair of mittens and a hat, a folded over Kangol hat, it's just too big enough for fun but not big enough to tear the lining from too much weight. I am not a shoplifter, but it could work for that.  The three piece hood (borrowed from the Green Pepper jacket) is just the right size with the short brim reinforced brim and the cut back sides (I can see with my periperal vision and if I turn my head, I can see even more and the sides don't swallow up my head).

One  side seam has popped at what would be the armpit, and I think I will tidy it up and open up the other side. This coat gets steamy on a cold day when I exert myself. Self-opened pit ventilation.

The zipper was too long, and has torn away from the front and see that wear at the bottom? Plastic just doesn't last, or at least the tape on this one doesn't last. But certainly the zip being too long has put undo wear on the far end when I zip it up with my little T-Rex arms. New shorter metal zip is in the WAWAK order. Sadly not orange, but a nice green.

I added ring snaps to the top to make it close up better, and will add them all the way down the front to add back some closure at length. It's nice to be able to put it on and snap it on without having to commit to zippering the whole thing up to keep it on over my shoulders to run out to the garbage or the mailbox.

The reflective material is less reflective and needs work or replacing

Actual color of coat

Okay, so the appliques still reflect on a flash photo. They just look like hell up close.

The cheap lining started pilling the first month, but I can live with that and I still do. And I knew it would need replacing after a year. It's lasted longer than I thought it would. The handwarmer pockets need to be insulated from the outside. They get super cold.

The hard part is: I cannot get it clean enough. The waterproof coating stains easily, there's this big scrape on the front that won't come off, and I don't want to scrub it really hard to make that worse.

A print would have been a better choice.

But I .... can make this into a print.....

STENCIL SPRAYING TIME! (or when winter is over and I can take it outside to do a proper job)
