Girl stuff i don't know how to do: Sleevy Shawl

Things I cannot do:

 High heels

Makeup

Scarves

I'm looking at this pattern and thinking the reason why it doesn't work for me is that I'm not a shawl or scarf wearer. If I were accomplished or even familiar with wearing a shawl, the one sleeved shawl would make sense and I could make it work. I could put it on and make it stay.

How do you people do that?

I have every sewing ambition there is or can be.
More aspirational than accomplished I think; the title slapdash sewist was already taken.
I spend a lot of time making little models and thinking about shapes.
And after seeing Julie's Jet Set Sewing version,
https://jetsetsewing.com/2018/03/25/oscars-report-get-a-snack-its-a-long-post-and-daniel-day-lewis-sewing-blog/

I wanted to play with this.

This is an issue. It is important, and appreciated.

I am not giving anything away by showing you this picture. As with most vintage patterns, the pieces mean nothing. Look at the photos: it's a sleeve with wrapping parts and a secret pocket.
The instructions are the gold.

And we are going to remind you, in a different typeface: don't make the mistakes your forebears did on Pattern Review.

There was a tissue fit with the full size piece. It was....I'm short.
The sleeve was the height of my torso.
It's a midriff baring wrap for her.
It's an entire torso and change for me.
I'm really short apparently, because what's left is HALF the size.

There are no finished photos. It turned into something entirely different, because it was huge and I just can't throw that one end over my shoulder to the back and THEN bring that other end to the front.
There might have been a bit of ripping.
Maybe.
(there was a lot)

Working out the bugs on the gloves

I have been poking at this pattern for years.

I pick it up about this time of year to poke at it some more.

Bike gloves. This is version four.

I made the three pattern pieces up in three colors to keep the action clear. Further explorations have changed the order of assembly, the sizing of the pieces, and a few bloopers along the way.

And see those little thread bits? Yes, I put the thumb on wrong the first time. And picked it off.

This doesn't work. I need to make the seams for the back first.

And we need more gather on one side for the other fingers.

Ungainly but moving forward.

And it will get a cuff. Cuffs are easy. I can grab a mostly dead sock and cuff this in a heartbeat.

Fit issues. Big hands. Hard to pin fit a glove on the dominant hand with the other one. But we're moving the right direction here.

Scuba fabric?

The proof of concept that proves it was a poor idea

I love this photo, I look like I know what I'm doing

The picture jeans that were a fun sew.
One piece pattern jeans that really work; they fit really well.
They LOOK like hell, but cookies aren't my friends.
This  Marcy Tilton denim panel print is just.....not flattering at all. It may turn into something else, as $54 a panel is a lot to walk away from.

After all the coats of paint (this was only coat#2), they squeak horribly.

Not shown: the lack of a facing piece in the back of the neck making this Vogue 1258 Miyake top very uncomfortable to wear. I've drafted one and added it since.

The cocoon coat does not fit everyone the way they had hoped it would

The toiles for a Chanel style jacket will get their own post later. They still make me cry.

The ant puppets were invisible on the dark set and the black clad actors, and were ruined by the second performance.

On the bright side:

The dresses are done and leaving tomorrow.

------------
The American presidential election went on for years, dropped to new lows in divisive and vindictive 'conversation' (if you can call screaming a conversation) and has created more turmoil than I can possibly describe.
Out here on the Left Coast, we feel pretty removed from the machinations of the parties, and the after-election "what ifs" seem ridiculous and self serving from all sides. All we've done is toss a brick through a window and start a riot.
I'm a mom. I have kids. I know a lot of different people. Many of them have been villified by our new president.
Tell why this is going to be better for all of us, if it's only better for some of us.
Peace out.
